In late August I mentioned the Garmin nuvi battery recall. Unfortunately, our Garmin nuvi 260W was in the “small subset” off affected units, so we sent it off for service. Better that than have our battery start a fire, right?

If you have a Garmin nuvi GPS, then listen up. I just received an e-mail from Garmin about a product safety recall relating to a potential risk of the battery overheating in your GPS unit. Bummer, huh? Here’s the scoop…
We have a Garmin nuvi 260W, and we love it. The wide screen and text-to-speech functionality make navigation a snap. We were thus very disappointed when our GPS suddenly stop reading of the street names.
Just over a year ago, we got our first GPS navigator. We’ve had various handheld GPS units over the years for geocaching, but we’ve never had a dedicated unit for in-car navigation. All I can say now is that I’m glad we took the plunge.
Over the weekend, I took the kids geocaching for the first time in quite awhile. Before heading out, I fired up our Garmin 60CSx GPS, plugged it into my MacBook Pro* and then headed for Geocaching.com to load up some caches.
