Why the iPad is Better Than the Kindle

I picked up an iPad the day they released the new version, and shortly thereafter I bought an Amazon Kindle for my wife’s birthday. After having used them both for a few months, I’ve found that the iPad is in many ways better than the Kindle.

Here are my top five uses for the iPad:

  1. Surfing the web
  2. Reading the news
  3. Reading and writing e-mail
  4. Playing games
  5. Watching video

Note that the Kindle sucks for at least four of these things – the one possible exception being reading the news. But even here, the Kindle pales in comparison to the iPad, mainly because it lacks a fantastic newsreader like Flipboard or Pulse. In fact, apps like these are responsible for news reading being split out from plain old web surfing in the list above.

And yes, I know that you can surf the web on the Kindle, and that there are some simple games available for it, but these just don’t compare. This isn’t to say that I dislike the Kindle. I’m just pointing out the ways in which the iPad is better. Click through for an alternative view as to why the Kindle is better than the iPad.
