Update to iOS 4.3.3 So You Can Jailbreak Your iPhone

If you’re anything like me, you’ve fallen behind on iOS updates because you didn’t want to lose your jailbreak. Well, now is a great time to update… JailbreakMe.com is back with a no fuss jailbreak, and Apple will block it in their next iOS release.

In other words, if you update to iOS 4.3.3 right now, you can re-jailbreak your phone in a snap and have a more or less up-to-date version of iOS for the foreseeable future. What’s not to love?

Not sure how to update? Start by firing up iTunes. Assuming that it’s set up to auto-update, you’ll likely see a message asking if you’d like to update your iPhone. If not, simply click on your iPhone in the left sidebar and then click the “Check for Update” button in the main window.

But before you do this… Control-click (or right-click) on your iPhone in iTunes and force a backup. Also, if you haven’t installed it yet, consider buying PKGBackup through Cydia and use it to backup your jailbreak apps, data, and settings.

Once you’ve updated to iOS 4.3.3, do another quick backup and then surf on over to JailbreakMe.com using Safari on your iPhone. Once there, go ahead and apply the jailbreak. It’s so easy a kid could do it. Literally. In fact, the last time I did this, I let my son jailbreak my iPhone for me.

Oh, and once you apply the new jailbreak, be sure to deactivate auto-updates so you don’t accidentally update to the newer, non-jailbreak-able version of iOS when it’s released.
