This is amazing! Can’t quite believe it is the humidity here in AZ in the winter but have the same issue and so far unplugging and fiddling with the power button has worked for 3 days running. Once it is on, on/off has worked until powered down for the night. Can quite figure the logic for the hair dryer but there is some vodoo magic there somewhere. I’m wondering if it has something to do with the stand by but can’t attach any logic to this either. I missed what the “I C” was that some “handy” folks replaced.

I am thinking of going to the hassle of trying just vacuuming around the vents. It will be a hassle as the set is in niche that really looked great back before the days of LCD TVs and is now a big issue in getting to the 240# monster that cost $1800 6 years ago. Oh well, only $300/year as I feel that the ultimate demise is in sight.

BTW this is a KV-36HS420 and now that TV’s are disposable, I don’t imagine I’m going to pay a premium for a Sony.

My nine-year-old Sony Wega KV-36HS500 has been turning on only reluctantly for the past few weeks. Hit the power button, no picture, standby LED blinks six times. Until today, turning it on and off a few times always got it to eventually come to life. Today, no go, even after dozens of tries. Found this site and tried the hair dryer trick. Worked like magic. Amazing. THANK YOU! We are just leaving the TV on until we replace it next weekend. I will be sorry to see the old dinosaur go, but my wife is overjoyed because she has always hated this 240-pound monster.

I have exact same tv along with the exact same problem bit i tried it and it work properly .do i need to blow dry it longer? Help a brotha out!

WOW! Anyone experiencing this same problem has gotta try this!!! Have a Sony Wega TV that wouldnt kick on. The power light just blinked 6 times but would start up. Went lookin on the internet for answers and wahlah! I found this page and decided to give the blow dryer a try. I turned the blow dryer on high and pointed it towards the vents near where the power cord connects to the back of the tv. I moved the dryer around in a small circular motion so that no one are would get to hot and did this for about a minute and a half. I then tried to turn on the set and it powered up like a champ! Leaving the tv on and just turning off the cable box is the best solution because the more you turn it off the more you will need to use the blowdryer technique to get it back on. Anyone know how to fix this problem permenently? Please let me know?

DUDE!!!!! it works!!!! my kv 34 hs420 waas acting up like you described I was getting 6 blinks. the set got put away until I saw this and after we moved it away from a window it sat 4 months near a heating vent It WORKS!!!!! going in my bedroom THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!

My TV hasn’t turned on it over 6 months. I tried the hair dryer trick and it works. WOW!

It was giving 6 red blinks.

Unplugged mine, used the hairdryer on high heat and very close to the cabinet at the location described for 3+ minutes. Plugged it in and it worked. Left the hairdryer on for and additional 3+ minutes for good measure. We will see about the longevity of the fix but good for now. Thanks.

I have been trying to blow the dryer since yesterday and the TV is not turning on. It used to earlier. I am planning on cutting open the plastic grill on the right hand corner towards the end and hope that the heat penetrates sooner to wherever it needs to go. Is this even recommended..if so- whats the best way to cut open the plastic casing of the TV ?
