Months ago I reported on a problem that I was having with our new Sony Bravia LCD TV… The screen was going black for a few seconds at seemingly random intervals when watching a DVD over HDMI.
Well, I’m pleased to report that I’ve fixed the problem. On a hunch, I replaced our el cheapo Philips HDMI cable from Walmart with a similarly cheap, but well-regarded HDMI cable from Amazon.
Guess what? For the price of a $10 cable, our beautiful new TV works exactly like it’s supposed to. The cable in question is a Mediabridge Ultra Series High Speed HDMI cable (link to 6 foot cable).
Note: This cable is also available in 3 foot, 10 foot, and 15 foot lengths.
If you’ve ever priced HDMI cables, there’s an important lesson here. While there are differences in cable quality/performance, you don’t have to spend an arm and a leg to get a good one.
