Make Travel More Efficient With an Always-Packed Medicine Bag

Do you travel a lot? If so, do you ever find yourself having to run out and buy random toiletries that you might have left behind? We do. Or at least we did. Read on to find out how we solved the problem…

For background, we have four kids, so when the six of us are traveling together, there are a ton of moving parts. To combat the travel-packing madness, we decided to create a dedicated medicine bag that contains all of the toiletries that we need on a typical trip.

The key here is to leave the bag packed when you get home, and to never (ever!) raid it for supplies between trips. In our toiletry bag, we have:

  • Toothbrushes for everyone
  • Toothpaste and mouthwash
  • Shampoo and conditioner
  • Soap, deodorant, etc.
  • Re-usable razor and blades
  • Various lotions, creams, etc.
  • Random over-the-counter medications
  • Band-Aids and other first aid items
  • Aloe vera gel for sunburns
  • Benadryl gel for bug bites
  • Ear plugs for noisy hotels

You will, of course, have to customize the contents to fit your needs. Just be sure to include anything that you’ll need on a typical trip and might otherwise forget.

Not only does this bag save a ton of time and stress when it comes to packing, but it also saves both time and money on the road. Indeed, we no longer have to run out and spend on a fortune on toiletries in a local convenience store, or (even worse) the hotel gift shop.

Sure, some hotels offer complimentary toiletries, but there’s a limit to what they keep on hand. And many hotels don’t offer these sorts of things, so you’re on your own if you forget something.

While this strategy might be overkill for the average traveler, it’s been a lifesaver for our family. When it comes time to pack, we just need to grab the medicine duffel out of our closet and we can check a bunch of things off the list all at once.
