My son finally talked me into helping him jailbreak his iPod Touch, but we ran into a snag. Since he’s running iOS 4.1, we’re using limera1n. Unfortunately, limera1n got as far as putting his iPod into Recovery Mode, but it wouldn’t go any further.
Instead, we kept getting the following error message:
RETRY: hold home + power
Unsure of what was happening, I decided to investigate. What I discovered was an amazingly simple solution… It seems that limera1n requires the latest version of iTunes (10.0.1). As it turns out, my son hadn’t gotten around to updating iTunes, so he was a couple of versions behind.
Fortunately, he had backed up his iPod before we started. Once we updated iTunes and restored his iPod, everything went smoothly, and he is now the proud owner of a jailbroken iPod Touch.
Honestly, I’m not sure why he cares, as the only real reason I’ve gone to the trouble of jailbreaking my iPhone is so I can share my 3G internet connection with other devices. But whatever. He’s a good kid, so I helped him out.
