Jailbreak Fix for the DirecTV iPhone/iPad App

We’re in the process of switching from Dish Network to DirecTV. Unfortunately, the DirecTV app for iOS doesn’t work on jailbroken devices. I’m not really sure why they bother blocking jailbreakers, but they do. Pretty annoying, huh?

Perhaps it’s part of their content licensing agreement — maybe the networks are afraid that people will record their shows and distribute them as torrents (or whatever). Regardless, they’re blocking it with the following message.

DirecTV This app is not supported on jailbroken devices.

The good news is that there’s a fix. Simply add the following repo to Cydia:

http://n00neimp0rtant.dyndns.org/repo/

And then install an app called xCon. According to the debs, xCon:

“…aims to be an all-in-one solution for hooking every known method and function responsible for informing an application of a jailbroken device.”

Note: While xCon might be available from another repo (it was for me) you need to use the repo above to be sure that you’re getting the latest version.

In other words, it blocks the ability to detect jailbreaks, thereby enabling pretty much any app (including the DirecTV app) to run on a jailbroken device, even if it’s not supposed to work. Slick.
