As I noted in my previous post, I’m a big fan of the Apple TV, but it’s not without it’s frustrations. Aside from the YouTube login problem, iTunes Match — which has so much potential — can be a little glitchy at times.
Most recently, it refused to sync a Smart Playlist that I had created on my MacBook Pro. Well, it didn’t so much refuse as there were no error messages. It just ignored the existence of said playlist.
I tried to “Update iTunes Match” from within iTunes on my laptop, but that didn’t help. I also toggled iTunes Match off/on from both my laptop and the Apple TV but that didn’t work, either.
Ultimately, I started playing around with the criteria on the Smart Playlist and got it to appear. Apparently playlists with certain criteria won’t sync whereas others will.
In this case, the offending rule had to do with specifying the bitrate, though I’ve heard that certain other rules are also incompatible with iTunes Match. So if your Smart Playlists don’t show up on iTunes, try playing with the rules.
