While jailbreaking my iPhone this evening, I ran into a small snag. I’ve recently upgraded to iOS 4.3.3 and I was trying to apply the JailbreakMe.com jailbreak, but it didn’t work right. Cydia installed halfway and then disappeared.
I tried again, but got the same result. From there, I tried re-booting my iPhone and going through the jailbreak process again. Sadly, I got the same result. After a bit of Googling, however, I discovered the solution… Restore your phone, as follows:
(But first, be sure to back up!)
- Connect your phone to your computer with the USB cable
- Launch iTunes if it’s not already running
- Click on your iPhone in the left sidebar
- Click the “Restore” button in the main window
This will take a bit of time, but it’s not too bad. Once you’ve restored a fresh copy of iOS 4.3.3, you should be able to jailbreak (and install Cydia) without any issues.
Of course, you’ll have to sync everything back onto your phone, but at least you backed up before doing this. Didn’t you? 😉
