The other day, my son showed me that the screen on his iPad Mini 2 had started flickering. Sure enough, I checked it out and there are horizontal lines flickering across the display. Bummer.
But here’s the weird thing… The flickering only happens when he has wifi turned on. I’ve done the usual troubleshooting, including a soft reset, updating the system software, etc. and nothing has helped.
It seems like one of three things must be happening:
- the display connector is loose,
- the LCD panel is failing, or
- the logic board is failing.
Given that the problem only happens under specific circumstances (i.e., when wifi is turned on) the first two possibilities seem unlikely. Thus, I’m not terribly hopeful about a cost-effective fix,
This is unfortunate, as it’s otherwise a great little device and I hate to give it up for dead. I may try cracking into it myself. The worst I can do is kill it, and o think it’s headed to the graveyard regardless.
