How to Upgrade Your Jailbreak

So you decided to jailbreak your iPhone, and you’ve been loving your newfound freedom. But now there’s a new iOS update out along with an associated jailbreak. You want to upgrade, but aren’t sure how… What to do?

The good news it that it’s very easy. Simply start by backing up your iPhone (or iPod/iPad) by synchronizing with iTunes. I also highly recommend using PkgBackup (more below). From there, use iTunes to update your version of iOS and then re-jailbreak your device.

Obviously, the above assumes that there is a jailbreak available for the new iOS version, so be sure to double-check before you run the update. Just to be on the safe side, you should stop iTunes from automatically checking for iOS updates.

As for restoring all of your jailbreak apps, data, and settings… If you used PKGBackup to backup these things up before updating, simply re-install PKGBackup using Cydia and then run a restore.
