Have you ever noticed that Microsoft — for some unknown reason — has set the default left/right margins in Word to 1.25 inches. Seriously? 1.25 inches? What a waste… Of both time spent changing it and paper when people don’t bother.
Well, today I had finally had enough, so I decided to figure out how to change the default margins. The good news? It’s super easy. The bad news? It took me a long time to get around to figuring it out.
To change the default margins in Word 2011:
- Pull down the “Format” menu.
- Select “Document…” from the list.
- Change the margins.
- Click the “Default” button.
- Hit “Yes” to change the “NORMAL” template.
That’s it. From here on our, all of your documents will have plain old one inch margins from the get-go. And if you’re too lazy (or forgetful) to change it on a per-document basis, you’ll also use less paper.
