Our house has two water heaters, one for the kitchen and laundry, one for the 2 baths on the opposite side of the house. Both are original to the house (25 years old). My parents had a water heater from 1929 that lasted into the 80's; they moved from that house and their renter replaced it for a bigger one, but it was still going strong. I would really like to get a point-of-use "instant" water heater, but given this history, you can see why my dad advises me to keep using the old ones until they wear out.
