While trying to restore my iPhone earlier tonight (it’s a long story), I ran into an iTunes error that was preventing me from re-activating my phone. After a bit of digging, however, I stumbled onto the solution.
The error itself read:
“We could not complete your request. There was an error in the itunes store (-9807)”
The error actually appeared after I had put the iPhone into recovery mode. iTunes launched as expected, but when trying to connect to the store, that message popped up.
I tried a few things, including re-mounting the iPhone and re-booting my computer. Nothing worked. I then stumbled on this page from the Apple support archives. It reference a different problem (error -50), but the solution worked.
- From the finder, choose “Go to Folder” from the “Go” menu
- Type /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration and click “Go“
- Find NetworkInterfaces.plist and drag it to the trash
- Restart your computer
This refreshes the network settings and, at least in my case, fixed the problem. Hopefully it will work for you, as well.
