Have you ever wished you could delete podcasts directly from your iPhone, without having to synchronize with iTunes? I have, and a week or so ago I figured out how to do this. Here’s the scoop…
Delete podcasts from your iPhone – old school method
The old school way of deleting podcasts (or any other media) from your iPhone has been to delete it from within iTunes and then re-synchronize your iPhone. That works, but it’s a bit inconvenient if you’re not in the habit of synchronizing things on a regular basis. A much better solution would be to delete the podcasts from directly within your iPhone interface…
Delete podcasts from your iPhone – new and improved
If you’d like to delete podcasts without having to plug in your iPhone, simply swipe your finger across the title to bring up the little red delete button (see below).

From there, just tap delete and you’re good to go. Unfortunately, there is a fairly major limitation to this approach…
Assuming the podcast in question still exists in your iTunes library, it will re-appear when you synchronize your iPhone. This makes sense (sorta) when viewed in the context of downloading podcasts over-the-air and then deleting them once you’ve listened to them, but… It still cripples what would otherwise be an incredibly useful feature.
Note: While I keep referring to the iPhone, this works equally well with the iPod Touch. I’m not sure which version of the OS first had this ability, but it’s definitely available in iPhone OS 3.0.1.

This does not work on my iphone. When I swipe my finger over the podcast nothing happens. There is no delete button on my iphone.
