Well, I found a a few spare moments to test out the Absinthe jailbreak for my iPhone 4S. As a reminder, the 2.0 version is an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1.1 that even works on A5-powered devices. Sadly, it didn’t go as planned.
I started by backing up my data. This included both my jailbreak apps/settings using PkgBackup and all the usual stuff using iTunes. I then updated to iOS 5.1.1, reset my phone to erase all data and settings (this reportedly speeds things up) and then ran the jailbreak.
After awhile, I noticed that it had gotten hung up at:
“Waiting for process to complete…”
Not long thereafter, it advanced to:
“Recovery completed. If you want to retry jail breaking, unplug your device and plug it back in.”
Bummer. It failed! But then I discovered that the Absinthe developers had released version 2.0.1, which supposedly fixed this problem. I quickly downloaded it and tried again.
Guess what? This time around, it worked flawlessly. Now I just need to restore my data.
