Absinthe Jailbreak Error: Something Seems to Have Gone Wrong

by Michael on May 25, 2012 · 0 comments

At long last! The untethered jailbreak for A5 devices running iOS 5.1 is finally available. It’s been released under the moniker Absinthe 2.0, and I’m excited. I’m on the road so I haven’t been able to try it myself, but…

Others are reporting problems getting Absinthe to finish the jailbreaking process. Rather, it’s throwing up an error:

“Hmm… something seems to have gone wrong… trying to recover”

It then advances to:

“Recovery completed. If you want to retry jailbreaking, unplug your device and plug it back in.”

I actually had similar problems getting the first version of the Absinthe jailbreak to complete.

That time around, it was (apparently) failing because I had the passcode lock enabled. Once I removed the passcode lock, all was well.

Rumor had it that VPNs could also cause problems with the Absinthe jailbreak, so that’s another thing to check.

In the mean time, be sure to backup your iPhone before attempting this jailbreak. If your device is already jailbroken, be sure to also backup your jailbreak apps and settings before you proceed.

Hopefully this will be a smooth upgrade, but if anything goes wrong it’s not hard to restore from your backup.
